 Tecmo Classic Arcade review:
With companies like Namco, Atari, Midway, Sega, Capcom and Taito all releasing compilations, Tecmo has finally (and wisely) dove into its own arcade history and come up with a prime set of aged token munchers. Tecmo Classic Arcade will absolutely shock the eyeballs out of younger fans who paradoxically, shouldn’t even be playing the Dead or Alive or Ninja Gaiden games. On the other hand, an old buzzard like me and those folks who appreciate the quarter-dropping bliss of revisiting some fun arcade titles will love every minute spent going through the 11 games in this collection. Even if you don’t remember most of these games (or that Tecmo used to be known as Tehkan back in the day), I’d have to imagine that most people will be grabbing this for the arcade-perfect versions of Tecmo Bowl and Rygar. Perhaps Bomb Jack, Solomon’s Key or Star Force will stir up memories of hanging with friends at your favorite pizza parlor. Or if you’re been around as long as I have, seeing Pleiads, Pinball Action, Swimmer, or Strato Fighter after way too long is really surprising after all these years. One thing is certain: either I’m getting older and slower, or most of these games are a hell of a lot more challenging than I recall.

That Tecmo not only didn't bother to do this, but only populated its first retro compilation with a miserly 11 games is pretty disgraceful. That almost all of these 11 games look like tired also-rans merely compounds the feeling that this is one of the most cynical cash-in releases ever conceived. Avoid.

Damn He-Man wannabe. So much for Rygar.Continued experimentation with Tecmo's collection isn't recommended, but diehards might find a friend in Bomb Jack. Popping balloons while avoiding harmful enemies isn't much different than Space Invaders or Bubbles or any one of a million other games, but Bomb Jack is capable of stealing 30 minutes of your time here or there. That's what good games do.
