Spikeout Battle Street review:
They're so patient, in fact, that you can stand in front of them and charge up a special move without having a finger laid on you.The only entertainment we found came from Fiona's hilariously animated kicking combos, which resemble an elaborate barn dance. That said, the fact that Sega think they can unleash such a dated and dire game on the public can be seen as a joke of some sort.
Spikeout Battle Street review:
Remember when folks were putting pennies on the eyes of Sega a few years ago after the Dreamcast went under? Actually, the company never really went away at all. They just went into a huddle and came back on the field with a new playbook, tossing out some really cool games every now and then like Panzer Dragoon Orta, Sonic Mega Collection, and Toe Jam & Earl III. If you‘re a hardcore Segaphile, Spikeout: Battle Street is another one of those cool games; a no-holds barred beat-em’ up that’ll be sure to bring back memories of classic Sega home and arcade brawlers from Streets of Rage all the way up to Dynamite Cop. From the fast paced combo-laced arcade action to the intentionally cliché-filled dialogue and the colorful cast of playable characters and bizarre enemies spouting said dialogue, there’s an old school vibe that permeates Spikeout from start to finish. Multiplayer Battle Street and Xbox Live play only amp up the fun once you find like-minded players out there
Spikeout Battle Street review:
This is mostly because the enemy AI doesn’t put up much of a fight. Normal enemies do very effective punching bag impressions, and not much else. Bosses are slightly more challenging since they can power up and make themselves invulnerable for a moment or two. They’ll then throw an attack or grab you and slam you, but once you learn to use the sidestep, this doesn’t pose much of a problem.
Spikeout Battle Street review:
+ Nice co-op options- up to four friends can join you in the brawling action, offline and online.+ Gameplay isn't revolutionary, but is a nice throwback to the beat-em-ups of yesteryear.+ Good graphic interface, with huge sprawling levels and no drop in detail.+/- Music's okay, but the sound effects are too limited and the voicework is downright hideous.- Grabbing items is a pain in the neck.
