 Spartan: Total Warrior review:
Overall, problems aside, Spartan still deserves your attention. Creative Assembly have in their grasp the engine and know-how to really push the total warrior franchise further. It’s a shame they dropped the ball in certain areas, as with a little more thought Spartan: Total Warrior could have been that essential purchase.

Spartan: Total Warrior review:
When the player enters the next area, the game considers this a checkpoint and saves all progress. But it also saves the hero's health as is, and if the hero's health is depleted, the player is, to put it mildly, out of luck. Because the game is, again, pardon the pun, spartan in its use of health stations, death becomes plentiful, and the experience frustrating.

They’re hard enough without being screwed by starting them off with half health and no arrows, for cripes’ sake. These flaws, along with the fact that the fighting never really changes despite some new weapons and enemies, are enough to bring Spartan down out of the “great” category. It sure beats the hell out of another Dynasty Warriors retread, though.

And at the base, the game is very likeable idea, controls brilliantly and does a lot of stuff right. But when the balance shifts from "I'm going to keep trying because I know I can get better" to "I'm going to keep trying to justify the $50 I just spent," then there's a problem.

+ A whole lot of hacking and whacking is to be had. Heads fly, blood splatters, and bodies hit the floor.+ The presentation is solid and the graphics engine is quite impressive. Lots of wide open environments with no load times in between check points.+ I'm quite fond of the many soldiers and creatures in the game. The mix between humans and monsters keeps things interesting.+ Cool music.
