Operation Flashpoint: Elite review: While this game's lackluster graphics will turn off most gamers, there is a deep military simulator underneath.

Operation Flashpoint: Elite review: Operation Flashpoint: Elite retains all the depth and immense content of the original and takes you right into the heart of a gripping Cold War conflict between NATO coalition forces and a renegade Soviet Red army faction. The game's intense campaigns and solo missions deliver deeply believable military situations and gives you complete freedom to handle any flashpoint on your own initiative.

Operation Flashpoint: Elite review: It may test your levels of forgiveness, and stretch the boundaries of your patience, but if you want a game that delivers something close to the unforgiving challenge, tension and confusion of real warfare, then give it a try.

Operation Flashpoint: Elite review: It provides an interesting look back at the history of vehicle-based first-person shooters, but as a modern Xbox game, Operation Flashpoint: Elite doesn't hold up.

Operation Flashpoint: Elite review: Then we went and hid under a tree. This isn't how World War II was won, but it provided much amusement for us.

Operation Flashpoint: Elite review: Released on PC back in 2001, Bohemia Interactive’s Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis was one of the most realistic military games ever made, garnering praise and awards from gaming sites around the world. Gamers looking for a more comprehensive simulation naturally took to Flashpoint and its Resistance expansion like ducks to water, and the game still has a loyal following despite graphically flashier, more arcade-like titles. Four years after the original game hit stores, the Xbox version, Operation Flashpoint: Elite storms retailers with even more depth than the original plus a few visual enhancements for good measure. In terms of tactical realism and gameplay variety, there’s no finer game on any console, period. Bohemia has tweaked the console version quite well, adding the 60-plus mission Cold War Crisis and Resistance campaigns, a supremely addictive mission editor and robust System Link or Xbox Live support for up to 14 players. In this package, you have the complete Xbox experience, especially if you’re looking for a game that’s as much of a challenge online as well as off.

Operation Flashpoint: Elite review: Operation Flashpoint Elite is a potential classic, handicapped by a jerky frame rate and a lack of precision in vital areas. Nonetheless, if you can live with its faults, what you have here is the most complete war simulator available on Xbox.

Operation Flashpoint: Elite review: Despite the fact Operation Flashpoint is over four years old it still remains fresh to this day. The game packs depth, authenticity and immersion in place of traditional gaming elements such as fun, leaving a simulation of war that’s deliberately different to others out there – Operation Flashpoint isn’t a videogame, it really is war…

Operation Flashpoint: Elite preview: Thankfully, the game does have a pretty generous auto-aim, so as long as I took the time to set up my shots, I generally hit whatever I was aiming at. Even so, not being able to shoot accurately and reload while on the road was such a departure from the norm in this style of game, it took me a while to feel comfortable with the combat.
