LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game review: The game just flies off store shelves, even at full retail price; truly a testament to the quality of this fantastic game. With a solid action core, innovative puzzles, teamwork concepts, and the clever integration of the endearing LEGO franchise, this would be a great game even without the Star Wars license, and I can only hope to see more LEGO-ized games in the future.

LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game review: LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game creates a unique game world built from original Lego blocks that will immersive you in the Star Wars universe.GameplayYou will play through scenes from The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and the forthcoming Episode III Revenge of the Sith. By unlocking Episodes II and III by completing a single Chapter of Episode I you can head back to Dexter's Diner to play them in whatever order you like. You will play through 18 levels some of the missions include pod racing on Mos Espa, the repelling of the droid onslaught in the Genosian arena and Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon’s fatal fight with Darth Maul you will experience the complete storyline of the first three movies in the Star Wars saga. The first thing I noticed playing Stars Wars Lego was how fresh and fun the game was to play. Although the game carries the license “Lego” anyone can play the game, there is so much to enjoy even for experienced gamers. The game does contain contains elements of the upcoming third Star Wars movie although the game does tell the Star Wars story in its own way. There are over 40 playable characters if you unlock them all, each has his own distinct abilities and moves. Yoda’s spinning and flipping light-saber attacks are spectacular while Jar Jar can jump to reach otherwise impossible items and areas R2 units can hack into door locks. You can play Anakin, Amidala, Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon, Chewbacca, Yoda, Mace and even Windu. Switching between characters is as simple as walking up to the one you want to use and pressing the triangle button. As a character-based action-adventure, the variety in game play is the key to the core of the game. You will play through all the dramatic action from the movies and also do whatever you want so you can play the game completely at your own pace.If you take your time to explore and experiment you can find lots of hidden bonuses and rewards. You'll collect LEGO Studs throughout the game, which you can trade for bonuses and cheats. The main unlockable rewards are all the extra characters such as Battle Droids, Security Guards, extra Jedi: Darth Maul, Darth Sidious and of course the new villain General Grievous. You can also collect the pieces of some LEGO "mini-kit" models, which will give you lots of bonus studs. And by achieving "True Jedi" status on every level (playing with skill), you'll be able to collect the LEGO "super-kit", which will unlock our secret level. To make it easier to get straight into the game there is no complicated menu screens or unreachable check or save points. There isn’t any part of the game which becomes frustrating even the health system is simple. You collect Lego coins and when you've taken too much damage; your coins go bouncing away. As long as you've got some coins, you're all right. The most unique feature is the Free Play mode where the core of the game play is. Here, you can take any character into any scene - even into a movie in which they didn't originally appear - and use their abilities to reach previously inaccessible secrets. You can take in a whole group of characters, in fact, and switch between them completely at will. You can switch from a Sith Lord, to R2-D2, to Jango Fett, to Boba Fett, for example. One of the best points of Lego Stars wars is co-op play which is an absolute blast to play. You and your friend play through all the levels fighting hordes of droids and solving puzzles together. Most of the action is character-based, but there a few vehicle and space combat scenes from the movies which are fairly linear and mostly rail based but adds a little diversity to the game. The controls are also set up extremely well. It’s very easy to pick up and play and start having a load of fun however the lack of a moveable in-game camera can be frustrating. Star Wars Lego is a combination of character movement, light saber combat, use of the Force, great locations, humor and playing through the different episodes. Using the Force can bring about some cool LEGO effects. The more you use the Force you can discover more cool stuff you can do with the Force. I thoroughly enjoyed using my Force powers to move around objects push over droids, build bridges, stack blocks, open doors, and solve simple puzzles. Combat is a breeze wielding my light saber destroying droids, deflecting blaster shots and causing trouble. Most of the combat involves hacking and slashing your way through hordes of droids and Clone Troopers. If you get bored with destroying bad guys you can turn and destroy other friendly characters if you feel like it. Lego Star Wars is a fairly short game each episode will take two-three hours to complete but there is plenty of hidden stuff which in Free Play mode you can replay with any unlocked characters, which can reveal previously unreachable areas and items. GraphicsLego Star Wars is a gorgeous game, using the latest in DX9 technology Shader Model 3.0, along with High Dynamic Range lighting. The frame rate is smooth, and the draw distance is also quite impressive. The levels are faithfully recreated from their movie counterparts and look magnificent with light blooms, bump mapping which create an incredible atmosphere. The LEGO figures look and animation is spot-on and has certainly captured the Lego look and feel. All of the characters are easy to recognize, even as Lego men. SoundThe soundtrack is straight from the movies and immerses you within the Star Wars universe. All of the sound effects from the movies have been used light sabers, blasters, and droids all sound exactly as they should. OverallThe principles of the game are very simple but the game is incredibly enjoyable for all ages. The game has a good balance of action and puzzle solving which should keep youplaying through right to the end. Lego Star Wars is one of the best Star Wars games ever made and if you are a fan of Star Wars or enjoy playing with Lego you should definitely buy this game!Thumbs Up Co-op play Fantastic visual presentations You can play through each of the Star Wars episodes Simple yet fun puzzles Tons of unlockablesThumbs Down Perhaps a little short The camera angle can become frustrating full size >>
