Dynasty Warriors 5 review:
Up to 50 characters are on the screen at once, although the only ones who seem to do any actual fighting are the boss characters and yourself. There are also graphical pop-up issues, and occasionally batches of enemies appear out of nowhere, which isn't what you'd expect from an Xbox game. Or any modern game, for that matter.

The game was something different and very fun. But it seems like every year nothing really seems to change and if you’ve got one then you don’t really need the latest one just for David Beckham’s new haircut. If you’ve played a Dynasty Warriors game before, then this is nothing new or special. Only the purists or those who haven’t played a DW title before would do well to pick this up.

Perhaps with the large number of opponents on the battlefield, gamers shouldn't expect advanced levels of AI, but at the very least it would be nice to see a bit of a fight, otherwise the gameplay becomes stale quite quickly - something that becomes apparent after just a couple of missions in Dynasty Warriors 5. Despite being on the more graphically capable Xbox, sadly the visuals are nearly identical to the PlayStation 2. Music remains gratingly repetitive, but the additions of Japanese voices do help to make the experience more bearable. Originality has never been the franchise's strength; but as one of the top selling games in Japan a little cliche never did Dynasty Warriors any harm.

You have a more symbiotic relationship with your bodyguard, of which you only get one. You two can do a deadly dance to mow down more morons. Of course, I would've rather had some two-player co-op over Xbox Live, but what do I know?

However, the fact that it’s rather repetitive and that an updated version will be on the Xbox 360 by the beginning of next year means you may as well consider saving your money. Despite the new features and updated visuals, I would personally recommend waiting for the X360 version when it is eventually released.
