187 Ride Or Die review:
At least it doesn’t crush the game under the weight of its suckiness. As it stands, it just hobbles it, and even then, just in the story mode. If a future installment is made, I’d hope that they improve the writing. The game itself is just fine, and would actually be much better had they not tried to make it into something it just couldn’t be.

Well, I guess you put up the money, you have got to at least see if you can make some of it back. Do them a favor and never spend money on this game to send a message that we can't be won over on quick cash-ins of overrated, morally destitute genres.-- Travis Dwyer

Most of the cars handle similarly, so switching between each class shouldn’t be a problem for most people. Other than a slight difference in speed, almost every car handles identically to the one before. For the most part, the weapons are standard, there’s your AK-47, Uzi, pistol, rocket launcher, as well as Molotov Cocktails and mines. You’ll ...

Your goal is total domination of the streets, and the elimination of “that vato n****a Cortez” and his crew of thugs. Did we mention it’s a driving game? Guerilla Black provides solid music for the menus and cut-scenes, but in-game the more generic tracks become mundane. Everyone from Compton to Kansas should be able to recognize this game for what it is. It is bad enough to place style over substance; when even that style is contrived and unconvincing gamers are left with a title to avoid.

With gangsta-themed games growing in popularity, this ride and gun actioner provides some decent arcade-style action, albeit with limited replay value.
187 Ride Or Die review:
+ Bad like a low budget B-movie, yet for some reason that winds up being this game's biggest strength.+ Lots of explosions, guns, and scenes of death.+ Multiplayer extends the game's life but only for about thirty more minutes.- The story's absolute garbage.- The dialogue is laughably awful.- The music's hysterical, though I don't think it was meant to be.

Whether it's a misconception or a shameful truth, the whole virtual "gangsta" lifestyle of excessive violence and excessively foul language would seem to be the latest cash cow for many game developers, as Ubisoft's 187 Ride of Die apparently attests.

187: Ride or Die tells the story of a reluctant urban hero named Buck, a young man living a thug's life seething with money, fast cars and beautiful women -- with danger lurking around every corner. Set in the underworld of Los Angeles, Buck must defend the territory of his mentor Dupree from Cortez and his gang of bandit roughriders, who are determined to take control of the streets.

You also might die if you spend too much time trying to piece together this stereotypical, slipshod narrative. Just wait until you have to sit through the terrible “plot” snippets before and after every mission. It helps if you think of the plot as the background bio of a random hood from a beat ‘em up game like Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance.
