Sonic Rivals review: Sega tries to breathe new life into the stale Sonic franchise with this racer, but sadly forgot to rev up the overly simplistic gameplay and slim selection of modes and characters.

Sonic Rivals review: Rip through tracks in some high-spirited single player and wireless multiplayer action against friends as Sonic returns in a whole new racing-platformer with classic 2D gameplay in true 3D environments for gamers on the go.
Jolt Online Gaming UK reviews 63%
Sonic Rivals review: Sonic's first outing on Sony's handheld provides simplistic but old-school fun.
Eurogamer reviews 70%
Sonic Rivals review: While the tracks may be imperfect (and arguably too few in number), and the rival's AI may be frustrating, this is still a game which finally merges Sonic's 3D visuals with the rock solid gameplay of the 2D incarnations, and will provide hours of fun for bored commuters, long haul travellers or anyone else who fancies pocket-sized fun with garden fauna's answer to Richard Hammond.
Game Informer reviews 68%
Sonic Rivals review: The base gameplay is decent, although the inclusion of power-up attacks and platforming obstacles only serves to muddle the experience, making success feel more like a matter of blind luck than skill. Still, it’s at least a solid direction for the Sonic series, and I hope Backbone gets the chance to refine it in the future.

Sonic Rivals review: There aren't many of them, though, and as a result, the replay value takes a hit. Still, Sonic Rivals has enough fun moments to make it a decent game to take with you on the go.

PSX Extreme previews
Sonic Rivals preview: Mainly, I checked it out just to see if it looked as bad as the early screens suggested. It doesn't. It looks just about as good as any of the 3-D Sonic games that were put out for the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2.We'll definitely upload nicer screens once Sega gives us new ones. Until then, don't give those old ones much merit. Sonic Rivals for the PSP is due out this fall.
Got-Next previews
Sonic Rivals preview: This Sonic fan was sorely underwhelmed by this latest offering. After a strong multiplayer component in the last game, I was feeling more pumped than ever for the ultimate one-on-one Sonic. It’s still a good idea, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully things change as development progresses.
GameSpot previews
Sonic Rivals preview: Sega Studio USA director Takashi Iizuka talks to us about Sonic the Hedgehog's first PSP game, as announced earlier today.
Gaming Age previews
Sonic Rivals preview: In addition, the extensive rewards system, which is based on collecting trading cards, allows players to customize their favorite characters. Connect via wireless to race against a friend, and put trading cards on the line for even more multiplayer challenges.
