The Legend Of Heroes II: Prophecy Of The Moonlight Witch review:
I’m not sure if it’s translation issues or what, but this franchise needs a much more compelling story if they want me to invest a huge portion of my already-limited portable gaming time on a game of this magnitude. And while they’re at it, hopefully than can work out some severe balancing issues that really hold this game back from being all that it could be.

The Legend Of Heroes II: Prophecy Of The Moonlight Witch review:
Although aptly named The Legend of Heroes II, this is not a direct sequel of The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion. Moonlight Witch is actually a prequel to Tear of Vermillion, but their stories aren't really related.
The story begins as a couple of teenagers start their pilgrimage across the world. The pilgrimage is a tradition of their village through which teenagers become adults. Jurio and Chris set out from the tiny hamlet of Ragpick to recreate the path of the legendary witches and visit the five shrines spread throughout the continent of Tirasweel. With a Silver Dagger to identify them as pilgrims, the youngsters leave their village without being able to return until they have looked into the five magic mirrors. Obviously, they are in for quite an adventure, as their pilgrimage turns out to be much more dangerous than they expected.

The Legend Of Heroes II: Prophecy Of The Moonlight Witch review:
Some of the other elements work pretty well, like the colorful visuals and funny dialogue. As a whole, the experience is definitely tailored to role-playing newcomers. I can’t say that any one aspect of the game is broken or terrible, but I also can’t think of a single thing it does to make it worth your time.

The Legend of Heroes II does little to set itself apart from the previous game, or most other Japanese role-playing games, for that matter.

The Legend Of Heroes II: Prophecy Of The Moonlight Witch review:
In a nod to modern sensibilities, the monsters are all visible on the map and can be avoided if you so desire. You just might, after you go through the first few dozen encounters. The combat system is as simple as can be, and the fact that turn order is rather unpredictable helps eliminate whatever small bit of strategy it might have had.
