Death Jr. review: Not everyone will appreciate Death Jr.'s macabre style. My advice for those unsure if Death Jr. crosses a personal boundary is that you locate a store willing to lend you a copy of the game (not all game rental franchises carry PSP titles, apparently). That way, you can decide for yourself if the game's themes and sense of humor are to your taste. - Michelle Thurlow, Grrlgamer.com

Death Jr. review: It's safe to say that any platformer or third person shooter fan should give Death Jr. a try. The game has a lot of playability to it, and despite some nagging camera and control issues, is still an extremely enjoyable experience overall. Sure there are areas of the game that lack the polish we'd like to see, especially in a game that's been in development as long as Death Jr. has, but it also can't be overlooked that at its core, Death Jr. is still a solid and very playable game that's also one of the few truly original and exclusive titles available for the PSP at this time. For those that we're looking for Death Jr. to be the PSP's first truly killer app, you may instead find a game that shines brightly in some areas and dims a bit in others.

Death Jr. review: Like our friend at the point, DJ dodged a few bullets but didn't make it out unscathed. Kudos to Konami for picking this title up, but both it and Backbone Entertainment should have spent more time tweaking it.

Death Jr. review: Playing as the Grim Reaper's son should have been cool, except for the lazy platforming bits and repetitive action.

Death Jr. review: Death Jr. is a new action platforming game that seamlessly blends elements from first-person shooters with the exploration of a third-person platformer and serves up a large dose of intense gameplay and weapon heavy combat for the PSP.

Death Jr. review: I’d really like to see this franchise get a shot on a big console. While I enjoyed the basic concepts of Death Jr., character design, gameplay design, and the large assortment of weapons in the combat-intensive action title, I just don’t think the PSP was the best place to debut this unlikely hero. Still, if you like hardcore action in a small package then Death Jr. will deliver.

Death Jr. review: Using the museum as a central hub that extends into multiple zones (each one themed for Death Jr.’s friends), you run through each level blasting anything you can lock your GTA-style targeting on while collecting power-ups and ammo, which is always abundant.

Death Jr. review: Whatever the reason, it is hard not to be disappointed when you expect a system-selling next-generation game and only get an interesting but flawed PlayStation-style adventure. It seems likely the world will see more of DJ, and gamers should look forward to it; but maybe next time the movie should come out before the game.

Death Jr. review: " It didn't have to go down that way. A dodgy camera and touchy controls can be fixed. I know I wasn't the only one at E3 who told the producer that the camera was a mess. But, alas, they shipped this most stylish and most gore-riffic game with its major problems still intact. What a shame, considering that without those problems, Death Jr. would have gone down as a AAA genre-defining milestone.
