FromSoftware’s Armored Core mech simulation series has become one of the most recognizable and longest running franchises for Sony’s PS One and PS2 consoles, and although in recent years the series has sort of grown a little stale to all but the most hardcore of fans, the Armored Core brand has made quite a resurgence with its two most recent installments. Back in September, Armored Core: Nine Breaker for the PS2 blew us away with its unbelievable replay value and customization options, and now with the recent release of Armored Core: Formula Front Extreme Battle the popular mech franchise has marched onto the PSP for the first time, delivering a solid robot-on-robot combat experience for yet another of Sony’s gaming platforms in the process. In this debut PSP iteration, however, things are a tad bit different from the usual Armored Core formula as you’ll soon discover, and that’s not a bad thing at all.

As you progress up the ranks, you will earn more of these chips, which can only be assigned to a single mech at any given time. These chips ascribe highly specific tasks to your bots, such as usage of particular weapons or clear-cut defensive maneuvers. Once you gauge your opponent, equip your bot with appropriate parts and allot the right AI settings, throw it into the ring to see how you did.
