Urban Reign review: Namco extends its pugilistic portfolio with this urban brawler.

Urban Reign review: In conclusion, Urban Reign has the initial feel of a good fighter – simple controls and a decent blocking/deflection system. But beyond that there's not many ways for a player to vary the attacks that Brad can use, especially against multiple opponents, which will leave just about anyone significantly frustrated as the difficulty goes up.

Urban Reign review: It never reigns but it pours in this fairly dismal arcade fighting game.

Urban Reign review: The combo system itself isn’t the deepest in the world, with each of the game’s 60 characters (including Tekken’s own Paul Phoenix and Marshall Law) really only having a few basic melee combos, however there’s more to ...

Urban Reign review: Beat-'em-ups should be fun and playable however good you are, and become appreciably better the more you understand their subtleties; Urban Reign is rarely fun or playable however good you are, and is about as subtle as, well, its tagline. "Are you hard enough to break some skulls?" I'm not, no, and you gave me no chance to be. Back in your ho.

Urban Reign review: In the end, Urban Reign proves to be little more than a worthy overnight rental, or if you must own it, ensure that its sitting in the bargain bin before splashing out that hard-earned cash.

Urban Reign review: In classic beat ‘em up fashion, the action hops right into the punch bowl thanks to the simple controls. Your primary attacks consist of only strike and grapple, which can be modified by pressing Up or Down. There are also a few ‘special arts,’ which are the only things that can stop or dodge another special attack.

Urban Reign review: That is where this game will live or die in the end, as the appeal for such a title is not as widespread as years ago. Keep in mind this is Namco’s second foray into the action/adventure genre in the last year, and with neither title standing out as groundbreaking new franchises, I think time would be spent better evolving their current fighters like Tekken and Soul Calibur. -- Brian Peterson

Urban Reign review: Beat 'em ups are making a comeback this late in the PS2's lifespan . Namco's brawler does thrill, but misses out on the crucial online play and a decent story.
