Steambot Chronicles review: Much of the enjoyment comes from enjoying the mix of genres squeezed into its framework - even if the game excels at none of them in particular. Nevertheless, the sum of these parts makes this a fun place and all the raw materials provided to put together your own unique adventure are imaginative and enjoyable - all you can really ask for in a sandbox.

Steambot Chronicles review: When I first heard of Steambot Chronicles, the newly released RPG from Atlus, I was immediately reminded of every other by-the-books J-RPGs already on the market and decided to approach it with caution; preparing myself for disappointment. I am pleased to say that Steambot Chronicles is much more than simply another RPG. It combines elements of nearly every genre and puts them in a neatly wrapped, uplifting package with giant robots to boot. - Eve Cekanska, Grrlgamer.com

Steambot Chronicles review: You can play for tips or to impress a girl on a date, and play a few concerts with the band. The musical numbers aren't likely to convert you into a devotee of lite rock if you aren't one already, but the performances are quite decent if you have an open mind, and getting good crowd response is a legitimate test of skill.

Steambot Chronicles review: Will Vanilla join the Garland Globetrotters? Or, will he join the Killer Elephant gang? The choices Vanilla makes, the Trotmobiles he builds, and the friends he keeps are all up to gamers who take part in Steambot Chronicles.

Steambot Chronicles review: It’s undeniably charming, fun despite its problems, and laugh out loud funny at times. There certainly are better games out there, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t have a good time with Steambot Chronicles. Give it a rental first, but I have a feeling that once you do you’ll see what I mean.

GameSpy previews
Steambot Chronicles preview: For example, few RPGs feature NPCs named Employee Yearning to Go Home, much less offer dialogue options like "Crush their dreams." In contrast to many Japanese RPGs, Vanilla is called upon to speak quite often, and characters tend to remember past interactions... especially if you play Vanilla as a jerk. Coriander, I didn't mean to give you up to those bandits... honest!
