 Shadow Hearts: From The New World review:
It's not exactly a harsh criticism - but it's not exactly the gushing commendation we give to our friends regarding Covenant, either. It would be unfair to call this game a stumble for the series; but equally, we find ourselves secretly hoping that XSEED can pick things up a bit for their next outing.

But if fame and fortune should come a-knocking for Shadow Hearts, it seems slightly unfair that it be From The New World that gets people into the series rather than its noticeably superior and more inventive predecessor to which this game owes so much. Shadow Hearts: From the New World is certainly an entertaining RPG in its own right but not quite the revelation that Covenant proved to be.

I suppose that with each outstanding sequel come higher expectations. Shadow Hearts: From the New World is a refreshing change, especially if you haven't played the previous games in the series. The judgment ring system, along with the handful of other factors that need to be considered during combat create a complex system that requires you to employ healthy doses of both strategy and tip-top reflexes for every encounter.
