Gamer's Hell reviews 73%
Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked review: Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked is a surprisingly well done button masher which should be even more appealing to anime fans.
Game Informer reviews 68%
Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked review: It’s simplistic hack n’ slash amid an abundance of loading screens, with just enough random craziness thrown in to keep you from giving up hope. Fans of the series will appreciate the game’s faithfulness to the show, but to everyone else, Sidetracked will just feel like an uglier version of countless games you’ve played before.
Worth Playing reviews 75%
Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked review: Based on the hit television series running on Cartoon Network's adult swim block, Samurai Champloo introduces a truly innovative fighting system that unleashes samurai hack-and-slash combos hinged on the hip-hop soundtrack of the gamer's choosing.

Game Chronicles reviews
Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked review: While I eagerly anticipate the next blockbuster title as much as any gamer, I dislike being milked for the money to make it. Samurai Champloo: champloo is halfway in between something that was rushed out the door to capitalize on the popularity of the series and a game that actually had some crafting. It’s worth the look for some mindless fun, but the price of admission is a bit high.

Gaming Age reviews
Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked review: It’s not for everyone, but giving it a try will most likely having anyone scratching their heads and reaching for the controller. Overflowing with style Great soundtrack Interesting gameplay mechanics Shallow gameplay Too weird for the mainstream? -- Tony Barrett

Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked review: When it comes to anime, it’s a love it or leave it proposition for the majority of people who see it for the first time. When it comes to anime-related games, you could say the same thing with the added option of "hate it because it’s not anything like the actual show," the kiss of death to those games that don’t meet the tastes of hardcore fans. Fortunately, Namco Bandai (or is it Bandai Namco?) did right by Samurai Champloo, the bizarre and hilarious series that matches feudal Japan with hip-hop style for off the wall results (and huge ratings, to boot). Hitting game shops just about now is Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked for the PlayStation 2, developed by SUDA 51 and his team at grasshopper manufacture (the forever insane Killer 7). If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll love pretty much all that’s here. If you’ve never heard of Samurai Champloo before and happen to be staring down the game on the rack at your favorite game emporium, you’ll be doing yourself a favor if you’re looking for a decidedly offbeat take on the hack and slash action genre. It’s also a great interactive introduction to the anime’s offbeat approach to its even weirder mixture of cultures and time periods. Comin’ at ya, straight outta Ezo, indeed...

GameSpy previews
Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked preview: If your character is in the reds, then it means that like audio levels, things are taking a turn for the excessive; in this case, it's damage. Also, Sidetracked has a lot of visual motifs that resemble the indisputably awesome moments of Killer 7, including a counter for combos that strongly looks like something straight off of last year's Kubrickian action game.
