Ratchet: Deadlocked review:
If it’s one thing that Sony can claim they have over all the other consoles, it’s the fact that they have the platformer genre on lockdown. With franchises like Sly Cooper, Ty The Tasmanian Tiger, Tak, and Jak, it’s easy to see that you can find all the good stuff on Sony’s PS2. However, out of all the platformers that have come out in recent memory, it almost wouldn’t have existed with Insomniac’s breakout Ratchet & Clank series. Releasing a game each year for the past four years, Insomniac has shown a stamina and flexibility in an often stale genre unlike any other. With each game, the franchise has progressively moved more towards an action shooter than being true plat forming, which is obviously part of Insomniac’s roots if you remember the underrated Disruptor on the PS1. In Ratchet: Deadlocked, it feels like Insomniac has yet again released another stellar title, but instead of focusing on plat forming, the company has finally taken the last step in making the Ratchet franchise a straight-shot third-person shooter, and to no surprise, it’s one of the best and most fluid shooters you’ll find anywhere out there.
