Jak X: Combat Racing review:
While Jak X: Combat Racing is not an innovative or stunningly fantastic title, what developer Naught Dog has managed to create in this genre adaptation of their famous franchise is certainly a worthwhile experience for any fan of the series.

Jak X: Combat Racing review:
Naughty Dog has managed to avoid nearly all the pitfalls of taking a lead character and dropping them into a racing game. Usually it ends in disaster or at least a very disappointing game. Jak X: Combat racing feels like a full member of the Jak family, and that's saying a lot.

Jak X: Combat Racing review:
After coming across a preview for Jak X: Combat Racing on the show X-Play, I immediately thought that this would simply be an average racing title contrived only to cash in on the hugely popular success of the Jak and Daxter franchise. As such, I had no previous interest in purchasing it, that is until I came across Sam Goody's "going out of business sale", and saw a copy of that very title sitting on the shelf for $15.99, on clearance from $40. In the end, the collector and bargain shopper in me cried out and I found myself sitting at home in front of the television ready to try out a new game, and I am very happy to say that this is one instance where my first impression didn't become my last.
Taking pointers from franchise racers of the past (Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing, among others), Jak X lets you play as one of our favorite platforming heroes, in both offline and online modes, as you race your way through the mean city streets and scorching deserts around Kras City, as if your life depended on it. Because in Jak X, it does.

Jak X: Combat Racing review:
Jak X is certainly a good pick-up-and-play title that's perfect for a rental over a weekend, and at a budget price we wouldn't hesitate, but right now, at full price we'd probably pass - but don't take that as an instant dismissal. You might be pleasantly surprised how good it really is; we certainly were.

Jak X: Combat Racing review:
In the end, all that needs to be said is that you should get Jak X: Combat Racing. If you want to spend hours twiddling with option screens and menus, there's Gran Turismo. But if you want some of the best get-up-and-go vehicular carnage since Twisted Metal and Burnout, Jak X: Combat Racing is the most adrenaline-pumping racer you can find on the PS2.

Luckily, the resultant hoopty still has enough gas to cross the finish line, proving that a healthy love for guns and cars can often overcome generally bad ideas.

Naughty Dog is back at it, and this time comes up with something different for the franchise. Expect the trademark solid action with an unmistakenly Jak feel.

+ Packs online play for various players, taking away from the hostile AI issue. Racing against others is enjoyable.+ Outstanding visuals, and the same solid presentation you'd expect from a Naughty Dog product.+/- Gameplay is tight for the most part, but some vehicles work better than others. At least upgrading is an option.

Jak X: Combat Racing review:
It's good stuff, if you're into that sort of banter.Ultimately, Jak X: Combat Racing lives up to the hype. Whatever flaws that bugged me in the circuit events were more than forgiven while playing the arena events. You need to take the game online to really get the most out of it, and if you can manage that, this is a definite must buy.

Jak X: Combat Racing review:
Reversing or resetting the car was a little bit sluggish, which means that you're pretty much guaranteed to get back into the action in 6th place no matter what you do. It's kind of annoying, but not too bad once you accept it's going to happen.
