There are certainly some bona fide '80s showstoppers on this expansion, but all told, this is Guitar Hero II with a coat of neon paint and half as much content.

Obviously, everyone’s going to pick this “expansion” up no matter what the reviews say. This is probably why Activision and RedOctane feel they can get away with charging a full $50 for half the songs of Guitar Hero II. Despite the shortcomings, an unstoppable urge will still somehow compel me to get in line for a copy the day Guitar Hero Encore comes out.

Ultimately, Rocks the 80s would have been a must-buy at a lesser price. But since you are getting 30 new songs (most of which are quite popular and/or fun to play), as well as the practice and multiplayer modes for all of these songs, its kind of hard to complain. The game is definitely a just enough to tide you over until Guitar Hero III ships, but for millions of fans, thats quite enough.
