When more than a few enemies surround Yoshitsune or Benkei, the player's initial response triggers a slo-mo effect which makes it much easier to deal with those foes. As a result, the choreography of these encounters can be controlled precisely. It's quite a ballet-like experience, which is probably one of the reasons for Sony describing Genji as a "beautiful" game.
