Ape Escape 3 review:
There are plenty of clever enhancements like the new morphing ability, and the spoofing of movies and TV is a great premise for creating plenty of entertaining levels.And with 400 monkeys, tons of bonuses, and a chance to play a reinvented version of Metal Gear Solid with a simian-twist, this is one ape game that will be nearly impossible to escape.

With so many kids games going for a darker, ’edgy’ tone that often works better in the design phase than in the final product, it’s great to see Sony put out a supremely cheery game like Ape Escape 3. This latest installment in the crazed monkey nabbing platform/action series combines colorful visuals, hilarious set pieces and a few hundred insane monkeys to nab by nearly any means necessary. Just about everything here clicks, from the snappy translation job to the assorted pop culture references and the hilarious use of music. For new players to the series, there’s no doubt that the dual analog control scheme will take some practice to master. Nevertheless, it’s done so well that it’s easy to learn and master with one or two minor issues. The camera tends to gets a bit erratic in some spots, but that’s probably because it’s cracking itself up during a couple of the game’s wilder moments.

The monkeys are at it again, and it's your job to catch them all in this light-hearted and surprisingly solid game. Third time is definitely the charm for this quirky series.

It is short though, easily beaten in the span of a rental, and even with Mesal Gear Solid and all the replay value, some may still consider the game too short to buy. On the downside we have a game that has not seen much innovation, is not that aesthetically attractive and has fairly annoying camera problems. In the end I have to go with the solid and fun gameplay and rate this game a little above average. The "B-" score should be seen as a message that the game is still good, but it may be time to give the franchise a much-needed major overhaul.

Ape Escape 3 continues to expand upon the core theme of the Ape Escape series: capturing monkeys. Packed with more content than any previous Ape Escape titles, Ape Escape 3 has a full 28 stages (136 total areas, compared with 84 for the previous installment) and tons of mini-games.

That said, you simply can't deny the charm and light parody afforded by these monkeys. Besides, the action does get quite good near the end; the rest of the game just needs to catch up. Ape Escape 3 is a delight of a game despite its unchanging flaws and its nearly worth it for Mesaru Gear Solid alone.
