Starship Troopers review: Paul Verhoeven may not be a director that many know, but he is one of my personal favorites in the movie industry. Creating such controversial and fantastic movies as Basic Instinct, Total Recall, and even Showgirls, he has always found a way to be uber-violent and sexually intriguing with everything he touches. For those crazed fans out there, you also know that his translation of Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers was one of the best sci-fi movies to come out in a long time, strictly based on the fact that you had a cheesy kind of movie mixed into all this blood and gore, with a little sexuality in the form of a co-ed shower sequence of course. Regardless, the movie is held in a cult status, even if most people root for the Roughnecks, which are compared by Heinlein to “the Nazi Third Reich” and the Bugs as “the Jews”. Either way, the premise of the movie itself was enough to warrant the idea of a game, so when screens first showed up for Strangelite’s development of Starship Troopers on PC, it’s needless to say that our jaws hit the floor. Having played the final retail version, we can say Starship Troopers may be flawed as a solid FPS in some areas, but what it does right, it does with flying colors.

Starship Troopers review: It's a generic first-person shooter, with gameplay that isn't very much fun and doesn't do justice with the license its based on. Gamers looking for a decent PC shooter experience would be better served looking for another game to play. Even more to the point, fans of Starship Troopers should be warned that this game will disappoint them severely.

Starship Troopers review: Developed by Strangelite Studio, the game is based on the Starship Troopers movie in which you will take the role of an elite 'special forces' trooper in the Mobile Infantry spearheading the assault against thousands of intelligent enemy bugs, emulating the best scenes from the movie and a whole lot more!

Starship Troopers review: It's easy to switch over to mental autopilot as you strafe and shoot your unlimited ammo for what seems like an eternity. Starship Troopers is great if you have any urgent daydreaming to catch up on.

Starship Troopers review: Starship Troopers has little dedication to faithfully re-creating the things that made the film unique, and it's a pretty lousy and technically deficient shooter to boot.
