Sid Meier's Civilization IV review:
If Sid Meier ever fails at this whole video game business, he can probably make a decent living as a schoolteacher. That’s the first impression I got upon playing through the wonderfully concise and amusing tutorial narrated by him in Firaxis’ brilliant Civilization IV. As for the game itself, it’s an absolute masterpiece as well as the best PC game of 2005, hands down. There’s so much here that makes the game a must buy that even those folks who normally hate turn-based strategy might want to take a look. For players who cut their teeth on the series, the familiar gameplay is here along with a far better multiplayer game. You’ll also get plenty of new features that allow both newbies and veterans to play and modify things any way they like. Firaxis has taken the big technical leap to 3D graphics without going overboard on overblown graphical trickery, but those Civ fans with older computers will definitely need to upgrade their machines as the game won’t run without a decent 3D card. This is the only major issue with Civ IV that’s worth griping about in my book; otherwise, the game is perfect.
Sid Meier's Civilization IV review:
The fourth title in the series of turn-based strategy games, Sid Meier's Civilization IV expands on the beloved gameplay of its predecessors with countless new gameplay changes and improvements, including religion, great people and for the first time in the Civilization series, a full 3D engine.
