This means that an area covering four or more states can change hands with only one battle. The battles themselves are standard hex-based combat. The game has pretty weak production values and nothing is going to wow you graphically or sound-wise, but the core of the tactical map gameplay is solid and worth checking out if you're a turn-based fan. Unfortunately the lack of a solid multiplayer experience limits the replay value of this title somewhat.

You’ll hear everything from missiles flying to tanks turning on. The music in the game is equally good though it could have been more dynamic to better fir the game. Shattered Union isn’t perfect. It fits a niche market that very few developers are pursuing though. If you’re looking for that, then Shattered Union will definitely be for you.

The Great Plains Federation, for example, has a killer piece of artillery that's incredibly powerful but slow and fragile. Figuring out how to best use your assets, which ones work well together, and which carry the most bang for the buck in a particular situation is the kind of enjoyable problem solving strategy game junkies live for and there's a lot to chew on in Shattered Union.

Shattered Union preview:
Control of territory is key to winning the game, as each territory will contribute different resources to the war effort every turn. I chose to hit New Mexico in the hopes that its advantage in supplying soldiers would help offset Pacifica's advantage in raising funds (damn that Bill Gates!)
