Gabriel Knight 3: Blood Of The Sacred, Blood Of The Damned for PC, rating: 80%
This is the third adventure in the Gabriel Knight series. You, as Gabriel Knight, assume the role of a "Schattenjager" (German for "Shadow Hunter") in the quest to save a kidnapped infant from a cult of vampires. Faithfully and realistically set in the French village of "Rennes-le-Chateau" Gabriel encounters a group of desperate treasure hunters, regional history and religous myths in his quest.
Gabriel Knight 3: Blood Of The Sacred, Blood Of The Damned review:
Pros: Several interesting narratives that all interconnect with a back-story so huge it takes into account the Catholic Church, the Cathars, the Templars, the Priory of Sion, Jesus Christ and the history of Mary Magdalen. Continues the strong characterization of the first two games, finally revealing the beginnings of the Schattenjagers. Detailed 3-D graphics give a sense of reality to the game's setting. Contains "Le Serpent Rouge", possibly one of the best puzzles ever made. Cons: Contains some illogical/outright silly puzzles. The back-story is so huge, the game takes a "tell don't show" cast by the end. The linear "time block" design can be frustrating due to the posibility of missing story elements and uncued actions required to complete them. The endgame contains action sequences and puzzle elements that can be frustrating. Blocky 3-D character models. Bottom-line: An incredible, audacious attempt that doesn't quite live up to its goals. Easily one of the most complex stories ever told in a computer game. Highly recommended as both the continuation of a great series and on the strength of its high points.
