Square's Final Fantasy is easily the most revered role-playing game series out there, its many entries spanning many platforms, including the NES, SNES, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, GameCube, Gameboy Advance, and even PC. Despite their success over the years, Final Fantasy XI for PC was a big test for Square Enix.

I'm not the only MMORPG virgin to have my cherry popped by Square Enix' sweet seduction; the vast majority of the players I've spoken to in the game are also playing a massively multiplayer title for the first time, having come to Final Fantasy XI as fans of the Final Fantasy series rather than as fans of the MMORPG genre.

Higher than 1024x1024 background rendering: Note: This procedure involves editing a registry value; do not attempt this if you are not familiar with working with your system registry, as a mistake can cause serious problems with Windows. Start Regedit and use the "Registry/Export Registry File" menu option to create a backup copy of your original registry. Use the following steps to set the background textures past a 1024x1024 resolution. In Regedit, Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE", then select "Software". Select "PlayOnlineUS" and the "Square Enix" folder, then the "FinalFantasyXI" tab. You should see two "strings", "003" and "004". Double click to open them, and change the value for "003" to "800", then change the value for "004" to "800". You will notice the values to the right after you click "OK" will change to the corresponding resolution.: Alternate opening sounds:In order for this trick to work, you must be running the Playonline viewer in windowed mode. Open the viewer, and as soon as the window shows up, click outside of the window, which will un-highlight the viewer. Instead of the standard music, you should hear cheering, followed by "Welcome to Playonline". Hint: Grass Cloth:Synthesize a Yagudo Necklace with a Wind Crystal. This will get you three spools of Grass Thread. Synthesize them with Earth Crystal to get Grass Cloth.Hint: Sheep Leather:Synthesize a Goblin mask with a Wind Crystal to get a Sheep Leather.Hint: Silk Thread:To get Silk Thread very easily, defeat Crawlers in East Sartabaruta.Hint: Raise White Magic level easily:This trick is useful to level up much needed spells such as Protect, Cure, and Shell. Go to a local residential area and stand directly outside your Mog House. Cast the desired spell on yourself until you run out of MP. You can also cast it on other players running in and out of their Mog House. Once you have run out of MP, run into your Mog House, replenish it, exit, and repeat. This saves a large amount of time from having to heal after casting. You can level up magic by casting the spell on yourself, despite if you already have the enhancement on yourself or have 100% HP. Keep casting and it will level up.Hint: Easy gil:This trick requires two characters. When starting a new character, you are always given an Adventurer's Coupon. When given to the correct person, you will obtain 50 gil. Make two characters and have the character that will be your main character be in his Mog house (preferably in order to get to the Delivery Box faster) and have the second character go to the Auction House in which ever country they are in and deliver their "Onion" weapon and Adventurer's Coupon to the main character. You can use the Adventurer's Coupon repeatedly. When the main character has received the items, delete the second character and make a new one with a new coupon and weapon. As for the weapon, put it up on the Auction House for about 100 to 200 gil. You can repeat the process as many times as desired.Whenever you get Crystals in battle, put them in an auction for about 100 gil each. You will make good money this way, or you can put them in your bazaar for about 50 gil each.At 6:00 in upper San 'Doria, the Wood Guild opens. There, you can by Arrowwood Lumber for 7 gil each. They sell for approximately 100 to 150 gil each. Also, the Luaun Lumber makes a profit, but not as much.This trick requires three party members in Bastok. Behind the lighthouse in South Gustaberg is a bush labeled as "???". There, you can trade a Quus to have Bubbly Bernie spawn. He is not very difficult to defeat and drops a Steam Clock. If you set the second person to Quartermaster and make him wait at the entrance to Bastok Mines, he can run into the auction house and send it to the third person, waiting at the Mog House in Bastok Markets. The third person should take the clock to Malene in the very northern part of the town. She will give you 500 gil per clock. You can repeat this as many times as desired. Note: You can only hold one clock at a time, but you can have as many as you desired inside your delivery box.Hint: Bastok Mines: Entering the Zehrun Mines:Go to Bastok Mines. Near the left on your map is a circle. Go there and enter the passage, and you will be in Zehrun Mines.Hint: San d'Oria: Recommended places to level up:Go to the following locations in San d'Oria when at the indicated levels to level up easily.: Hint: Final Fantasy logo:When you board the airship and the screen is on Steiner in the front of the ship, in the background clouds you can see the Final Fantasy symbol fly by every few seconds.Glitch: Orc jumps tree while attacking: Go into West Ronfaure and find an Orc (any kind) near a tree. Attack the Orc and get on one side of the tree. Make sure that the Orc is on the exact opposite side. When in the correct location, the Orc will attempt to attack you, fly up into the tree, and fall back down in front of you. Note: The Orc still causes damage to you while in the tree.:

Final Fantasy, a series endowed with prestige and respect by its gaming inhabitants, has evolved from its subtle yet sophisticated state, into a deep and captivating existence. Square Enix should be given a lot of credit. They have proven they are willing to take risks and try new things, even if it means breaking Square traditions.
