F.E.A.R. review:
FEAR has amazing visuals, incredible enemy A.I., plenty of weapons to help you tare those baddies apart and an engrossing storyline that is at once freaky and involving. Is there anything else to ask for in a game? F.E.A.R is so good it's scary. - Eva Cekanska, Grrlgamer.com

F.E.A.R. review:
At which point you might load up a save, try it differently and watch as action unfolds completely different. And that's why F.E.A.R. succeeds in spite of its shortcomings. No, it won't probably scare you. No, the story doesn't live up to its potential. But this game is basically gun-porn and you'll experience multiple gun-gasms playing it -- that's what a pure shooter should be about.

F.E.A.R. review:
That's a LOT of commands. Personally, I'd rather have more commands than fewer, but I've played space sims with fewer commands than this. After accidentally hitting the Windows key a few times and getting dumped to the desktop during firefights, I eventually decided to dump the lean keys altogether to place the Medkit and SlowMo commands within easier reach.

With an 8-9 hour single player campaign and its hefty multiplayer portion, F.E.A.R. is an absolute must have for any First Person Shooter fan out there that takes pleasure in having the holy hell scared out of them, all while playing an intriguing game with an impressive storyline.

F.E.A.R. review:
A third adversary is huge with a massive lethal arsenal. Later on, you face powerful flying attack drones and even spirit foes. A couple of times a truck tries to run you over. Even though foes' wily nature poses a real challenge, some greater variety here would have really helped.

...beneath the special forces facade lies a great and incredibly creepy game that will not only test your wits but will scare the hell out of you at the same time. The result is one of the most immersive, plot driven first person shooters since Half-Life.

F.E.A.R. review:
FEAR is not indisputably the best FPS we've seen on the PC, but it is one people will remember for a long time, and if/when a FEAR 2 arrives, it will be very highly anticipated. The bottom line is, even if you're only a remotely active fan of the FPS genre, you should go out and get FEAR....and maybe a videocard upgrade on the way back.

An unidentified paramilitary force infiltrates a multi-billion dollar aerospace compound, the government responds by sending in Special Forces, but loses contact as an eerie signal interrupts radio communications. When the interference subsides moments later, the team has been literally torn apart. Your mission is simple: Eliminate the intruders at any cost. Determine the origin of the signal. And contain this crisis before it spirals out of control.

F.E.A.R. review:
About this time last year, the likes of Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 raised the bar for first-person shooters (FPS) so high as to seem unsurpassable. Guess what? It's indisputably surpassed with Monolith's F.E.A.R, simply the best FPS game to date - and easily the game of the year.

The game developers at Monolith have been makinggames for quite some time now. In fact, you could say that the folks atMonolith have been crafting quality FPS games for years. From the Aliens vs. Predator series, to the much lauded No One Lives Forever series,to--one of my favorites the oft-forgotten Tron 2.

F.E.A.R. review:
The bottom line is that F.E.A.R. is a combination of the impossible, a game that will in one moment make you sweat with the intensity of the elaborate set-piece firefights and make you shiver in nervous fear the next. If you've got the requisite nerves of steel and iron will, buy F.E.A.R. and learn just how scared you can get- even when you're carrying a rocket launcher.

F.E.A.R. review:
When a game is given an M rating (for mature), most often than not, that game is anything but… mature. There are two ways of looking at the word "mature". But then, such is the case with art. A work of art can be gruesome and yet have meaning and purpose to it, and that is what will separate it from an object that is simply gruesome for shock value.

F.E.A.R. review:
So there isn’t a lot of talking. Your only contact with context comes from voice-mail messages and the cryptic ramblings of the psychic master. While the former are a little silly (do all commandos stop and listen to other peoples’ voicemail when they infiltrate offices?), they work surprisingly well.

F.E.A.R. review:
For F.E.A.R. players who find themselves in a similar predicament, a ladder is totally obscured behind a pair of vertical pipes...The only reason that the developers placed the ladder in such a random position must rest with a desire to keep players guessing. A challenge it may be but the example just came across as a cheap shot. Page 1 of 4 //

F.E.A.R. review:
Were it not for its time manipulation though, it would suffer - and certainly can't compare to Half-Life 2's timelessness on that basis. Buy it because it's a glorious novelty that won't wear off for its duration, but do expect things to move past it in the coming years. For now, it's worth celebrating because it's put the fun back into FPS punctuation.
