Disney's take on the Pokemon genre has none of the polish you'd expect.

Spectrobes review:
Spectrobes, an anime-inspired action/RPG by the makers of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, are prehistoric creatures that possess special powers, and hold the key to defeating a vicious and merciless force, known only as the Krawl and threatens to destroy the galaxy.

Spectrobes review:
I do hope Disney continues the franchise though, as the game has excellent potential. If given a bit more time and push towards proper combat and gameplay polish, Spectrobes would go from its current score of a C+ to around an A- or a B+. It's that good, potential-wise, but the execution is just too janky to excuse.-- Tony Barrett

As a scavenger sim Spectrobes absolutely succeeds, but scouring every inch of planet after digital planet will quickly wear thin for most people.

Spectrobes review:
For the rest of us there is perhaps a compulsive, if derivative, game under the mish-mash of ideas here - give it an inch and yes, perhaps it might take a reality. But, in truth, the game you're enjoying is probably just that of trying to fill blank spaces in a collection: you gotta catch 'em all gaming. That's arguably a pretty good game but, sadly, it's one that is better clothed elsewhere.

What you're left with is a game that desperately wants to be your friend, but lacks enough redeeming qualities for you to really take interest.

Spectrobes review:
There are even real-life collectible cards to trade around to get some of the cooler breeds. With all the hallmarks of a title that might just grab that elusive kid audience, there are nonetheless a number of more engaging titles that I’d wish on the younger gamers I know.

The anime-inspired action RPG for the DS utilises the console's different functions and combines them into an interesting finished product.
