Basics Of Search

:

The Basics of GamePublic Search:

To start searching, just type in a title of a game and hit the 'enter' key (or click 'go' button) for a list of relevant games from the database. In a common situation you will get a list of all games which include all the words in your query, refining or narrowing your search is as simple as adding more words or search terms you have already entered.

Typing Game Titles:

For best results, it's important to keep these tips in mind:

- Use official game titles, rather than slangy. "Unreal Tournament 2004" works better than "Unreal". - Make your queries as specific as possible. If you"re looking for a single game of "Commander Keen" series, use index numbers. Ie, "Commander Keen 5". - If game title has comma or dash symbols, try to replace it with a space in your query.

Search By Platform:

You may narrow your search by adding platform to your query. Your new query will return a smaller subset of games Gamepublic found using platform term. Please use official platform titles. "Super Mario SNES" will give you better results rather than just "Super Mario".

You may filter out platform-specific games by clicking platform title at Search results platform filter box at the top-right corner of every search page.

Search By Channel:

You may narrow your "too-broad" search by adding channel name to a query. In this case Gamepublic will search for all games with with keywords that have links from specified channel. There are 5 main channels: reviews, previews, screenshots, downloads and cheats. Downloads has patch, video and demo subchannels. Cheats have cheat, walkthrough and FAQ subchannels. If you're looking for previews for "Half-Life 2" game, use "Half-Life 2 previews" query instead of "Half-Life 2".

Capitalization:

Gamepublic searches are not case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case. For example, searches for "DoOm iIi", "doom iii", and "Doom III" will all return the same results.

Indexes:

Gamepublic searches are not sensitive to the way you write game index numbers, both roman numerals and arabic numerals work in the same way. However, the suggestion is to use game's official spelling.
